Halls Hill History Walk

Earlier in September, WalkArlington in partnership with John M. Langston Civic Association and the Black Heritage Museum of Arlington hosted a guided walk through Halls Hill. The walking tour offered participants a unique opportunity to engage with local Black history. Starting at the Segregation Wall (17th & N. Culpepper), the walk was led by JMLCA President and historian Wilma Jones and included six key sites: Calloway United Methodist Church, Fire Station 8, Langston School/Community Center, Mount Salvation Baptist Church, the welcoming area near High View Park, and Mr. Moore’s Barbershop.

Each stop highlighted stories of resilience, community, and cultural legacy. The Langston School, in particular, served as a powerful reminder of the neighborhood’s enduring contributions to Arlington’s cultural and educational landscape. The event concluded with refreshments and reflection at Calloway Church, a cornerstone of Black heritage in the region.
