We hope this will be the first of many opportunities to learn from and celebrate the legacy of Langston Boulevard.

Glebe Radio and Appliance quietly sits on Langston

Glebe Radio and Appliance quietly sits on Langston Boulevard. Like most Langston Legacy Businesses, it thrives through good, old fashioned word of mouth. No flashy lights, no marketing gimmicks- just high quality products and unmatched service.

Although he claims to have retired, you will likely find former owner, Dabney Wharton, and his dog, Lucy, still manning the shop. This Arlington classic was founded in 1946, but it wasn’t until the 60s that Dabney started making deliveries for the family business. Besides his time serving in the Army during the Vietnam War, the family business is his life’s work.

Sitting down and chatting with Dabney is like suddenly having access to this cistern of untapped knowledge. It’s as if he’s dripping with little known facts and funny stories. Professionally, we all can benefit from the information we collected from him to submit to Arlington’s Historic Archives. Personally, our team simply enjoyed being around Dabney in his element.
