The PEOPLE AND PLACES PROJECT is not just a celebration, but a crucial effort to preserve the rich cultural heritage found along the Langston Boulevard corridor. In conjunction with Arlington County, LBA is collecting the stories of local people and locations that have played an important role in defining our shared sense of place in the communities along the corridor. This will include community leaders, historical figures, community and social groups, civic activists, and legacy businesses, to list a few. Our goal is to use community knowledge to collect and archive these stories so that our shared histories, experiences, and culture can be preserved for generations to come. This is an urgent and important task that we must all undertake, so we ask for your help identifying our most important people and places.

Legacy Businesses
Cornerstones of the Community
We define legacy businesses as those that have been in business continuously for at least 25 years along the corridor and have contributed to the growth and heritage of the community. These businesses help define our sense of community and place. They provide unique and authentic services and products. Many of these businesses are multi-generational and are both symbols and caretakers of our community’s history and heritage.
Community Spaces
Environments for Community Collaboration
Some of the most important historical events and community decisions along the Langston Boulevard corridor have happened in our community spaces. Whether public spaces, like schools and government buildings, or private spaces, like places of worship or community centers, our community spaces have, for generations, provided the settings for our cultural heritage to unfold.
Community Groups
Keepers of the Community
Langston Boulevard has some of the most active community groups in Northern Virginia. These groups provide the foundations for our community members to become involved with civic and community activities, arts and entertainment, or recreational endeavors. They help to enable continuity and direction for the ongoing cultural heritage along the Langston Boulevard corridor.
